With talks of a possible mass move from MTN to Globacom, is Don Jazzy planning the music industry’s biggest coup of 2015?
No one knows for sure, if the rumoured endorsement exodus will happen, but if pulled off, it will be the ‘mother of all portings’; expected to shake the industry to its foundations.
Will it do to MTN what the Saka porting did to Etisalat? Pundits say it’s too early to say.
Although NET can not independently confirm this, sources claim the Mavin crew led by Don Jazzy are ACTUALLY considering dumping Nigeria’s biggest telco operator, MTN for local rival Globacom.
Good move? maybe not. MTN builds a business around its ambassadors, monetising content and ensuring performance engagements. Glo may be considering overhauling its format, but for now, the company only uses ambassadors as TVC models at best.
If the rumored move materializes, it will be the first time MTN will lose its ambassadors to a rival, and it may be a loss eventually for the artistes, as MTN has a reputation for monetizing its partnerships better than Glo and Etisalat. Airtel is not even in the picture at all.
