Rahama, Samirah Turn On The Style In Kannywood

The Hausa movie industry (Kannywood) has several talented actresses, who have left many a fan spellbound not only in the Northern part of the country but the country as a whole. These screen beauties are blessed not only with talent, but with good looks and gracefulness, while carving their niche in the ever-growing industry. There is certainly hot competition, no doubt, where each of these delectable ladies has to devise creative ways to make an impact and stay relevant. AMINA
ALHASSAN AHMAN looks at the styles of some of these pretty women who are currently rocking the Hausa movie industry.

Rahama Hassan
Described as one of the finest the industry, Rahama Hassan is in a class all her own. As one of the top Kannywood actresses, this University of Abuja graduate did not just stumble into acting. It took careful planning to build on her childhood dream. She is bold and certainly has what it takes to go far in her career. Kannywood movie lovers observe that the fast rising actress is in great demand at the moment, fast becoming a ‘hot cake’ with many producers.

Her style
No doubt within a short period she has able to record her name among the top Kannywood actresses having introduced a new style into the Hausa film genre. Rahama is always ahead with great enthusiasm on set. She is not your typical Hausa, Muslim lady who is conservative and wears the veil or at best, covers her hair in accordance with the Islamic faith having been spotted numerous times, both on-screen and off, without a head gear- veil, hijab or any other head cover.

But this is what sets her apart from others; she is comfortable leaving her hair open just as she also loves to cover it up when the occasion demands it. That is Rahama Hassan for you. As a lady who has her eyes on the top, she has put her all into her career and that goes with creating her own style. Her dress sence is impeccable; she knows what suits her and has that in mind whenever she steps out. However, one thing is that, she will never comprise decency just to be popular.

“I still have a long way to go in the industry. If I don’t put in my best and be creative, I am going to be out dated in no time and really, I don’t want that to happen. I want to be known worldwid.
Her movies include: Rudin Zamani, Bahijja (which earned her a nomination as best actress in SIM awards last year) Kudissiya, Musanya, Gaskiya Dokin Karfe and Wassan Maza (a movie where she fights for women’s rights).
Samirah Ahmed

Samira is tall, elegant and very stylish; she is one of the top glamorous actresses in Kannywood. She is quite the ‘fashionista’ and has many outfits which portray her Nigerian and Arab side. Taking a leaf from her Arab roots, she wore a white gown on her wedding day, a trend which many have said is strange for a Hausa girl and too ‘westernised’.

Recently married to actor, TY Shaban, their talk-of-the-town wedding generated some controversies because of the introduction of a trend which is alien to the Northern traditional marriage. Samira, who comes from a mixed background of Arab extraction and Nigerian, was honoured by her new husband who organised a Shisha-smoking event as one of the wedding programmes-a style which had many tongues wagging. tY Shaban later explained that it was not.

She is a great actress who is also making waves. She makes sure that every role she acts, she comes out with the best performance to dazzle her fans. She has recorded many achievements in her shot stint in the industry.
